NEW RICHMOND -- James Short, 47, died of a heart attack at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in his home in New Richmond. He had lived in New Richmond the last three years and in Montgomery County since 1949 when he moved here from Glasgow, Ky. The son of Charles Matt and Dell Buckingham Short, he was born April 15, 1915, in Hart County, Ky. June 30, 1939, he married Pearl Bunch at Goodnight, Ky. Educated in the schools near his Kentucky home, Short was a self-employed carpenter-contractor, a member of the Dover Baptist Church at Lucas, Ky., and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jan Royer of Rt. 1, Romney; two sons, David of Attica and Kenneth at home, and a granddaughter, Candy Linn Short. He is also survived by five brothers, John, W. of Rt. 1, Williamsport, Ray of Rt. 1, Romney, Raymond of Rt. 1, Ambia, Jessie of Louisville, and a sister, Acie Atwell of Horse Cave, Ky. Other survivors are five stepsisters, Mrs. Mildred Cooksey of Linden, Lucille, Dixie, Ilene and Erlene and three stepbrothers, Hubert Short, Woodrow and Charles, and his stepmother, Mrs. Lillie Short of Lucas, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and a stepsister. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Helms Funeral Chapel at Linden. Rev. Harold Clark of the New Richmond Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
